CARFAC Ontario provides advocacy and entrepreneurial information for over 900 individual and institutional members. In CARFAC Ontario presentations, they discuss their relationship to CARFAC National which represents artists in every province and territory of Canada. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the CARFAC organization. CARFAC Ontario offers many services and resources for individual artists such as legal services, workshops, group health plan, publications on art practices, health and safety in the studio, estate planning, and much more. CARFAC advocates on behalf of artists which is carried out on both a provincial and a national level. At the national level, CARFAC is working on negotiating copyright and moral rights for artists’ artwork, updating exhibition and reproduction fee schedules, and fighting for the Artists’ Resale Right in the secondary market. All of these issues impact on individual artists’ practices, careers, and lives. Our latest victory at the provincial level was supporting a working group to allow recipients on Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program to receive art grants without it affecting their income and livelihood. CARFAC Ontario is funded by memberships and funding from the Ontario Arts Council and Toronto Arts Council.
